Free Web services.

Free Web Services & Applications

Here's a list I've compiled of free Web services and applications. Some you may be familiar with, others may surprise you, but they are all amazing! I have used and recommend most of these. Also, if you know of any FREE Web sites, applications or services that you think may be of interest, please pass them on, and, yes, I am a geek/nerd.

  1. Aviary (http://advanced.aviary.com/) is a powerful suite of browser-based design tools. It's free to try the tools and sign up. There are comprehensive tutorials for all of the programs. Once you've registered an account you can store your work on their servers to embbed or link to or download.

    • Myna is a audio editor with an extensive royalty free music loops library. It also allows you to upload your music files, record an instrument or your voice.
    • Phoenix is a image editor like Photoshop.
    • Toucan is a color editor that you can use as a stand alone program or in conjunction with the other applications in the suite.
    • Peacock is an powerful effects editor that works in a sophisticated nodes mode.
    • Raven is a vector graphics tool like Illustrator.
    • Falcon is an image markup tool that can be used for screen capture.


  2. Sumo Paint (http://www.sumopaint.com/) is a image manipulation tool like Photoshop. It allows for editing photos or creating graphics.
  3. CleVR (http://www.clevr.com/) is a free and easy way of creating and sharing panoramic photos.
  4. Animoto (http://animoto.com/) creates music videos from photos and music you upload, or from their extensive library of royalty free songs.
  5. PDF-to-Word (http://www.pdftoword.com/) Can quickly and easily create editable DOC/RTF files, making it a cinch to re-use PDF content in applications like Microsoft Word, Excel, OpenOffice, and WordPerfect. Best of all, it's entirely free.
  6. Weebly (http://www.weebly.com/) Create a free website & blog with a easy drag and drop interface. No technical skills required. Dozens of professional designs. Free domain hosting.
  7. Pandora (http://www.pandora.com/) is an automated music recommendation and Internet radio service. Users enter a song or artist that they enjoy, and the service responds by playing selections that are musically similar. Users provide feedback on approval or disapproval of individual songs, which Pandora takes into account for future selections.
  8. Skype (http://skype.com/) is a free software application that allows users to make voice calls over the Internet. Calls to other users of the service and, in some countries, to free-of-charge numbers, are free, while calls to other landlines and mobile phones can be made for a fee. Additional features include instant messaging, file transfer and video conferencing.
  9. SketchUp (http://sketchup.google.com/) is a free to download 3D modeling program designed for architects, civil engineers, filmmakers, game developers, and related professions. It also includes features to facilitate the placement of models in Google Earth. It was designed to be easier to use than other 3D CAD programs.
  10. SkyDrive (http://skydrive.live.com) 7GB of free online storage
  11. CafePress (http://cafepress.com)is a free online store.  Cafepress sells teeshirts, bags, mugs, wallclocks and calendars. Customers can upload their own graphics design, logo or text, which will be added to the product by CafePress. CafePress.com also offers print on demand services for books and music CDs. The site also allows the user to have a virtual CafePress "shop" including an online storefront and website hosting, order management, fulfillment, payment processing, and customer service.
  12. Google Voice  (https://www.google.com/voice) is a telecommunications service by Google launched on March 11, 2009. Google Voice had some 1.4 million users in October 2009, 570,000 of whom used the service 7 days a week.This number has risen markedly since Google made the transition of its Google Voice service from 'invitation only' to be available to all Gmail subscribers. However, Google has not released a more recent number of users, claiming only that it is in the millions.
